The meeting, organized by the Unión Democrática de Pensionistas y Jubilados (UDP) and FUNDACIÓN TELEFÓNICA, addressed various issues related to technology in the daily lives of the elderly and their safety.
The meeting took place at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in the emblematic building on Madrid’s Gran Vía. The event was opened by Carmen Morenés, general director of Fundación Telefónica, together with Inmaculada Ruiz, president of and vice-president of PMD (Plataforma de Mayores y Pensionistas), and Juan José García, general director of Mayores de la Comunidad de Madrid.
ATAM was represented by its director general, who spoke on “Technology and support for the most vulnerable people: the role of social organizations”.
Ignacio Aizpún stressed during his speech that the current technological revolution will allow us to develop the operating system for providing support solutions to vulnerable people that will enable them to live at home according to their preferences, autonomously, and in conditions of safety, health, and well-being.
He also pointed up that independent living is about the ability of a person to make decisions, to live according to their own preferences, and to take control over their own lives.
During the meeting, various round tables were organized to deal with issues such as “Technology at the service of people and their security”, in which Julián Prieto Hergueta, deputy director general for promotion and authorizations of the Spanish Data Protection Agency, Lourdes Muñoz Santamaría, founder of the Barcelona Open Data Initiative, spoke about “Technology at the service of people and their security”, and Lourdes Muñoz Santamaría, founder of the Barcelona Open Data Initiative, spoke about “Technology at the service of people and their security”, founder of Iniciativa Barcelona Open Data, spoke on the value of data to improve the lives of the elderly, and Alexis Hostos, a cybersecurity expert at Telefónica Tech, in his talk “Friendly and secure technology for the elderly”, dealt with the prevention of technological scams for the elderly.
As a result of the conference, an innovative vision was extracted that pushes us to reflect on the advantages of an appropriate adaptation of technologies to bring greater well-being to the lives of the elderly.
